چکیده
We describe a 59-year-old Japanese man with acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) demonstrating medial temporal lesions on magnetic resonance images (MRI) mimicking acute limbic encephalitis. This patient had antecedent infection and developed urinary retention. Subsequently he showed various neurological manifestations including truncal ataxia, nystagmus and generalized convulsions, suggesting multifocal brain and spinal cord lesions. Brain MRI demonstrated hyperintensity areas restricted to the left hippocampus, amygdala, and inferior temporal gyrus. The cerebrospinal fluid did not show any pleocytosis or elevated protein levels, and had no evidence of herpes virus infection. Serum antineuronal antibodies were not identified. Corticosteroid therapy markedly improved the symptoms. Although these clinical features indicating multifocal central nervous system lesions were compatible with those of ADEM, none of the previously reported patients with ADEM showed lesions confined to the medial temporal lobes mimicking acute limbic encephalitis. Medial temporal lesions are characteristic features of herpetic or non-herpetic acute limbic encephalitis. Findings in our patient suggest that non-herpetic limbic encephalitis patients showing marked response to

Acute hemorrhagic leukoencephalitis mimicking herpes simplex encephalitis: case report.
Acute hemorrhagic leukoencephalitis (AHLE) is a more severe form of acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) characterized by a fulminant clinical course and the presence of hemorrhagic necrosis of the white matter. We report the case of a 57-year-old woman who developed delirium following a respiratory infection. Magnetic resonance imaging of the brain disclosed signal abnormalities in the ...

PURPOSE Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) is a monophasic demyelination disease of central nervous system (CNS) with presentations of impaired consciousness, neurologic deficits and diffuse white matter lesions on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Predisposing infection can be identified in around 50 to 77% of all patients with ADEM. Post-infectious autoimmune events associated with J...

Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) is a monophasic inflammatory disorder of the central nervous system (CNS). Unlike viral encephalitis, microorganisms do not invade the CNS. Instead, ADEM is a postinfectious disease mediated by auto-reactive cells or molecules. Clinical characteristics of ADEM are consistent with disseminated involvement of the CNS, including encephalopathy and pyrami...

Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) is a monophasic clinical syndrome, characterized by immune-mediated demyelination of central nervous system neurons, which yield extensive damage in the brain and spinal cord.It usually affects children and young adults following infections or immunization. Here we describe a 9- year-old Fars female presented with acute onset of psychotic disorder, o...

Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis (ADEM) is a monophasic demyelinating disease most often triggered by infection or immunization, though associations with malignancy and stem cell transplant have been described. We described the case of a four-year-old boy with new-onset neurological symptoms associated with ADEM, acute leukemia, and equivocal evidence of Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection. He ...
